Antique Barometers

Summary of Barometers

Barometers are antique instruments for measuring the weight of air barometric pressure. The Barometer was first devised by Galileo and was completed by his protege Torrecelli in 17th century Italy.

Instrument makers in 18th century England began working closely with the emerging scientific community and produced accurate measuring devices. Examples of these important makers work eventually began to appear in domestic homes, however it wasn't until the emergence of the itinerant Italian barometer makers in the early 1800's that saw Barometers become a home feature.
