Pretty country timepiece alarm signed Evans, Salop. Circa 1800

Circa 1800, Shrewsbury England.

Fully restored with a two year guarantee.

Dimensions: 64.00cm high x 30.00cm wide x 21.00cm deep

The weight driven movement is of a typical thirty hour clock construction but with an independent alarm instead of a striking train. The duration between winds is therefore about 2 ½ days depending on the height at which the clock is mounted. The alarm train is pull-wound and will only sound if primed.
The 7” painted iron dial has the alarm disc fitted in the centre and is set by turning to the required hour.
The case is a combination of woods; the carcass being a mixture of pine and oak and the front veneered in mahogany with holly stringing and decorative inlay. The scroll pediments are simple yet charming, as are the baluster columns either side of the case door. Provincial features despite Salop being the historical name of Shrewsbury the county town of Shropshire.
