Quaker Hoop & Spike wall clock.

Circa 1740, Cotswolds England.

Sympathetically restored to full working order. Two year guarantee.

Dimensions: 30.00cm high x 25.00cm wide x 18.00cm deep

Unsigned weight driven wall clock typical in style and manufacture of a group of Quaker makers centred in the Cotswolds, one of the best known being Richard Gilkes of Adderbury. One of the most distinguishing features is the radial zigzag engraving within concentric rings.
The 30 hour iron framed movement with 10” brass dial, all in very original and charming condition. Hoop and spike clocks can sometimes be found in wooden cases but usually as provincial pieces they were simply hung on the wall via the hoop, whilst the two spikes at the bottom keep the movement horizontal. A very similar clock can be seen in, “English 30 hour clocks,” by Darken and Hooper, page 7.

Dimensions: 30.00cm high x 25.00cm wide x 18.00cm deep
