Timepiece movements that did not strike but were fitted with an alarm mechanism were made by many makers throughout the 18th century but unusually for a clock of this size the duration is eight day, not the typical thirty hour. The movement has an anchor escapement and nice feature are a pair of clip in brass side doors to keep out the dust.
The 5” brass dial is engraved with floral swags and spandrels characteristic of the 1780’s, as are the Arabic 5 minute markers and serpentine steel hands. The engraving was filled with black wax; much of which has worn away from the Roman numerals and then silvered.
The clock is hung on the wall via the dark oak bracket, which contrasts well with the silvered dial.
