Yarmouth. Circa 1780.

An engraved plaque inside the trunk door
states the clock hung in the Star Hotel ,
Yarmouth since the time of Nelson till it
was sold privately in 1932.
The lacquer work and dial are in fine original
condition and the chinoiserie has
great charm.
An unusual and interesting feature is the
segmented mahogany bezel which is glazed
and hinged at the top.

boxwood edging.
Enamel dial with the original surface and
without need of restoration.

Weight driven eight day wall clock. Cuban
mahogany flame veneer on the door and
base whilst radially applied to the edges of
the hood and base. Painted dial with the
original background. Height 56".

Fine quality eight day fusee wall clock
signed Dutton, Fleet Street. Dial, movement
and pendulum numbered 1836.
Twelve inch brass dial engraved and silvered
surrounded by a heavy cast bezel secured
with a lock.
The case with it's chisel shaped drop-trunk
and door is veneered in well figured Cuban
mahogany.

The Duttons were a family of very fine
clockmakers.
The patron and founder Matthew Dutton was
apprenticed to George Graham and went
into partnership with another Graham
apprentice Thomas Mudge at 148 Fleet
Street,London in the 1750's.
This Fleet street address served the family
for generations and the 1836 number indicates
the this clock was probably made by Matthew's
great grandson Robert William circa 1850.
